Epigenetic programming of the embryo by the gametes
Increasing evidence points to that transgenerational influence of the environment can be mediated by gametes and embryos. Epidemiologic evidence for such mechanisms are presented in several species including humans, but the underlying mechanism is still far from being understood. The bovine model allows to explore the environmental effects of both parents especially at the metabolic level, which is a major function of epigenetic programming. The proposed talk will summarize the progress made in the understanding of epigenetic programming in the gametes using the bovine model.
